I sorted out like crazy in the beginning of the year. Already before reading Magic Cleaning by Marie Kondo, a book I mentioned in this post, I had put away a lot of things I wasn’t wearing regularly to crate my capsule wardrobe.
A capsule wardrobe simply means a minimalistic wardrobe with fewer pieces that are almost all combinable with each other and do not go out of style. This concept of the capsule wardrobe is perfect for travelers or people who tend to move frequently – like me. When all your clothes fit together it gets way easier to pack for a trip. When you do not own many things at all, moving is way less stressful than otherwise. So here is how to create your perfect travel capsule wardrobe:
After reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying I followed her steps of putting all clothes on a big pile and take a look at every piece to determine weather I wanted to keep it or not. The rule is simple: If the piece makes you happy, keep it. If it doesen’t, put it away. I did not keep a lot of things leaving me with this 2 clothing racks and a box with winter / summer clothes only that I put away depending on the season.
Add new clothes to complete your wardrobe, but with consideration
After you have sorted out, it might be possible that you are missing a certain piece to combine with your existing clothes. While you should not start to buy and buy and end up with the same amount of clothes like before, it can make sense to add a few pieces to make more out of the ones you have.
A list of travel capsule wardrobe must haves
It really depends on your own personal style to add a few things that showcase your own personal style, but these are the true basics that are worn most often and can all be combined with each other.

- A light blue, dark blue and black jeans
- A warm (cashmere) and a light black cardigan

So, this is my capsule wardrobe. I have to tell you that the “Eames chair” is a replica. But a really good one! I got it at Popfurniture as I love the design and wanted a real Eames chair since a long time, but I am not yet at the point where I can afford a 400$ chair. So, this is my alternative. Let me tell you, I really really love this chair, even though it is not the real one.
